John Earl Madden popularly known as John Madden was born on 10 April 1936 in Austin. He was born to Earl Russell Madden and Mary Margaret Madden, while his father was a mechanic and the family had migrated to California when Madden was a child. To complete his studies, he went to Catholic Parochial school and then graduated from high school in 1954 from the Jefferson High school. He always wanted to be a football player, however, as destiny turned out he ended up coaching football teams. Madden wanted to be a football player and used to play football in high school. He went on to play for the Mustangs at Car Poly. He was then drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles but during his training period, he injured his other knee in the training camp. Therefore, he never got to play football professionally. In 1960, he became the assistant coach at the Allan Hancock College, and then in 1963, he was appointed as the defensive assistant coach at the San Diego State. Later he was hired by the Oakland Raiders in 1967 as the linebackers coach. Two years down, when the head coach of Raiders retired, Madden was made the head coach. At the age of 39, Madden became one of the youngest head coaches and under his training Raiders reached Super Bowl II that season making Madden one of the best football coaches in the history of the Raiders team. He even became the youngest coach to reach 100 career regular victories. From 1979-2003, Madden worked as a commentator on all the major American Television Networks CBS Sports, Fox Sports, ABC Sports, and NBC Sports.
